Position Title: Assistant Controller

POSITION SUMMARY:  
Cost Accountant with the ability to perform deputy controller functions, focusing on standard costs, inventory control, budget preparation and monitoring, financial statement analysis and audit support. The ideal candidate must have strong accounting knowledge, analytical ability and problem solving skills. This role is critical to ensure financial accuracy, operational efficiency and compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements. The position requires close collaboration with various departments including finance, production and purchasing to maintain cost integrity and support strategic decision making.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Calculate, analyze, and update standard production costs, ensuring cost accuracy and proper allocation.
  • Monitor and control cost variances to identify improvement opportunities and drive cost-saving initiatives.
  • Conduct profitability analysis by product, business line, or customer, providing insights for pricing and business decisions. 
  • Supervise and audit inventory control, ensuring accurate valuation, recording, and reconciliation of physical inventories.
  • Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and control of the annual budget, working closely with department heads.
  • Analyze budget deviations and propose corrective strategies to improve financial performance. 
  • Prepare and analyze income statements, providing detailed financial performance reports and variance explanations. 
  • Support external and internal audits, ensuring compliance with accounting policies, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards. 
  • Collaborate with the payroll department to verify accounting records and labor costs, ensuring accurate allocation in financial statements. 
  • Implement and improve accounting and internal control processes to enhance operational efficiency and financial accuracy. 
  • Develop and maintain financial models and reports to support management in decision-making. 
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management based on data-driven analysis. 
  • Assist in system enhancements and process improvements related to cost accounting and reporting.
REQUIREMENTS (including educational requirements)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required, CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in standard costing, budgeting, and inventory control.
  • Advanced knowledge of cost accounting, financial analysis, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (preferably SAP), with the ability to generate reports and analyze financial data.
  • Experience in internal and external audits, with a strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements. 
  • Knowledge of payroll and labor costs, including their impact on financial statements. 
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to generate financial reports and insights to drive business decisions. 
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive process improvements. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
